The Brief
Porsche South London hosted a corporate evening spotlighting rising Porsche racing driver Esmee Hawkey, held at the dealership’s showroom. The evening ran from 7pm to 9pm: welcome drinks and a car showcase from 7–8pm, followed by a short video on female racing, then a talk with Esmee Hawkey and a live Q&A panel from 8–9pm.
Our Approach
Staging was built to the client’s spec — a 3m x 2m stage, one step high, finished in grey. The PA and microphone rig went up from 4pm: a six-channel mixer feeding two 1000w speakers, with every cable taped to the floor and tied to the speaker stands to keep the showroom floor clear. Soundcheck ran at 5pm with the venue’s own staff.
Esmee Hawkey and her interviewer both wore lavalier neck-tie microphones to keep their hands free, while two wireless handheld microphones were passed around the audience for the Q&A. Our sound technician balanced levels continuously through the talk and panel, and speakers were angled toward the guests and kept at a safe distance from the microphones to avoid feedback.
The Result
Background music in a relaxed beach chill-out style played at the start and close of the evening — no DJ was needed, since the format called for a clean PA and microphone setup rather than a DJ set. It’s exactly the kind of brief we’re set up for: speeches, interviews and panel Q&As in a working showroom, with sound engineered around the room rather than a dancefloor.
