The Brief
Hispania's downstairs room — the venue's biggest space — was booked for London Business School's MBA2006 class reunion. The brief combined a live band with a DJ on one shared system: our DJ arrived first to set up from 6pm, before the band arrived at the same time and plugged straight into the DJ's PA rather than bringing a separate rig. The evening opened with reception drinks and stand-up bowl food, with speeches run through the DJ system at around 7:30pm ahead of the band and DJ sets.
Our Approach
Running a live band and a DJ off one shared system for the same room means every handover has to be seamless — speeches, the band's sets and the DJ's set all go through the same PA, so levels and timing have to work for each format in turn.
The band took the floor from around 8:30pm for a 30-minute set, came back for a second set from 9:30 to 10pm, and our DJ then took over from 10pm through to midnight — mixing 80s classics with Spanish music to suit a genuinely international crowd of London Business School alumni.
The Result
The combined band-and-DJ format gave the night two different energies without a single changeover hitch — speeches, live music and a DJ set all ran cleanly through the same system. It made for a fun, high-energy reunion, with guests dancing well into the night downstairs at Hispania.
