The Brief
A 30th birthday in the back room at Saint & Sinner in St Albans, for a family party of around 80 guests. The birthday boy is a DJ himself and wanted room in the set for drum & bass and garage, while the wider family — parents, aunts and uncles — wanted 80s, disco and pop. The brief was to hold both in one night without either side feeling like an afterthought.
Our Approach
Party Night London supplied the DJ; the equipment already in the room came from a separate DJ decks hire company — two RCF 912 top speakers and an RCF 12-inch subwoofer, three Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus decks and a Pioneer DJM-2000 Nexus2 mixer. No lighting was needed for this one — a clean, functional setup suited to a family back room rather than a full production.
The night ran from 7.30pm to midnight, built around family as much as music — plenty of speeches and sing-alongs woven through the set. There was space for the birthday boy to step into his own sound with a run of drum & bass and garage, before easing back into the 80s disco and pop that had the aunties and uncles up as much as anyone.
The Result
It’s a good example of Party Night London working flexibly — DJ-only, alongside another supplier’s own equipment — and reading a genuinely mixed-generation room, building a set that moved between two very different tastes in one family without either one losing out.
